Project Overview

This project will entail a thorough inspection of the Hawks Nest Tunnel by experts to determine if there is any repair work that is necessary. Since the construction of the Hawks Nest Tunnel in the 1930s, there has been no such inspection and we determined that this work was needed in order to ensure public safety-Brookfield Renewables number one goal. The project is expected to kickoff on August 3rd and will likely last through October 3rd. This project is weather dependent, and tentative dates are subject to change based on weather and a number of other factors

What's new

As this is a project of large magnitude, there are going to be impacts to the company and the region, including public access and recreation. These impacts include: • Closure of the “Hiking & Biking Trail” at Cotton Hill Bridge near the dam. This closure will remain until completion of the project. • Closure of the tailrace fishing platform and parking area adjacent to the Hawks Nest Hydroelectric station. The closure will remain until completion of the project • Generation of specialized 25 Hz power will cease until completion of the project • Hawks Nest Lake will be taken down approximately 25 feet to ensure the safety of those working on the project which will impact recreators including boaters & fishermen. The Lake will be down throughout the duration of the project, and will begin to come back up on or around October 3rd.
